YOUTH SERVICES
The mission of the Youth Program is to create a safe, consistent, environment which provides each youth with opportunities to develop a sense of personal empowerment and excitement about their future.
Program Description
The Youth Program at Friends Outside in Santa Clara County provides after-school programs, educational advocacy, summer camps, mentoring and much more to youth ages 7-17 who have been impacted by parental or familial incarceration. The Youth Program strives to break the cycle of intergenerational incarceration by providing a variety of programs and services that provide opportunities and engage youth in school and in their communities.
Program Goals

- Provide mentorship, stability and positive role models
- Empower youth to believe in themselves, their abilities and their potential
- Encourage academic success
- Foster positive relationships with their teachers, parents and peers
- Increase coping skills
- Develop stronger communication skills
- Reduce school drop out rates
- Build self-esteem
Services Provided
- Youth Groups meet weekly to provide a safe, fun and inspirational place for children to meet with peers, increase positive social interaction and learn leadership qualities. Available for youth ages 7 to 17.
- Tutoring: 1:1 tutoring for youth struggling in school. Available for youth in middle and high school.
- Juvenile Hall Services: Groups and 1:1 support for youth in Juvenile Hall as well as transitional support for youth who are soon to be released.
- Case Management for First Time Offenders as an alternative to Juvenile Hall.
- Mentoring: In collaboration with Friends For Youth, children ages 8 to 17 who have a parent in prison can be matched with a Senior Friend for mentoring and support.
- Summer Camp: Week long summer camps provided between the months of June and August for youths aged 7-17.
