Jail Program

The Jail Services mission is to provide for the efficient delivery of contracted and non-contracted services to meet the immediate needs of Santa Clara County inmates
and those recently released from correctional facilities.

Program Description

The Jail Services program at Friends Outside provides services inside the County jails to help maintain links between inmates and the outside world. By providing these services we help prisoners take care of their problems, ease tensions inside the jail, and make much needed referrals to programs inside the jail and in the community. Staff and volunteers visit the jail 3 to 4 times a week to deliver books, glasses, sign notaries and complete pro-per tasks.

Program Goals

  • Advocate for inmates in the Santa Clara County jails
  • Provide a much needed link between inmates and their families
  • Ease tensions in the jail by providing basic services to inmates while they serve their time in custody
  • Maintain positive relationships with the Department of Correction in the implementation of services

Services Provided

  • Cash payroll checks (we do not cash welfare, personal, disability or E.D.D. checks)
  • Arrange for court ordered releases in family emergencies
  • Verify court dates
  • Deliver books
  • Contact parole/probation officers
  • Provide Notary Services (Please call the office for more information)
  • Provide information on marriages/divorces
  • File papers in courtPhotocopy legal papers
  • Provide clothing for jury trials
